The Cirencester College Digital Skills Centre is complete and ready to provide students with cutting-edge technology and resources. Cirencester College is a popular, highly regarded education facility that has served the Gloucestershire community for many years. The college provides a forward-thinking and vibrant learning environment, helping young people to become educated, well-rounded, and confident.
We have worked with Cirencester College over several years on a premises development plan, aiming to make improvements to the site and provide cutting-edge, flexible learning spaces. The Digital Skills Centre is the latest step towards creating a wide range of opportunities for students. The centre will develop digital skills and, in turn, will help leavers with employment prospects. With Gloucestershire being the cyber capital of the UK, these skills are more important than ever.
We worked with Cirencester College to design an exemplar teaching block, able to deliver flexible, collaborative spaces for both teachers and students. The college was able to commission the building due to a grant from GFirst LEP, who invested in five different projects across the county as part of a wider government scheme, ‘Getting Building Fund’.
As well as benefiting students, the flexible space offers a new location for community and employer events and is a major asset for the county. At the recent opening, visitors commented, ‘This is such a statement for your college. Nobody else has anything like this’ and, ‘This is even better inside than it looks from the outside – amazing.’
As part of our wider work with Cirencester College, we have also designed the new T-Level building which is currently under construction. The three-storey atrium and building will provide flexible learning space for a range of technical and creative subjects. We will continue to involve students in the process with on-site visits and talks throughout the design and construction phase. We look forward to seeing it open in autumn 2022.
