It’s been a busy month for our sport and leisure team as we’ve seen the opening of three new venues and celebrated the first anniversary of an award-winning leisure centre.
Sandwell Aquatics Centre will provide a range of facilities to the community, including an Olympic-size pool, gym, and football pitch. Phase one of the delivery is now complete ahead of a major sporting event this summer and phase two will continue later this year.
You’ll be seeing a lot of the Sandwell Aquatics Centre on your screen this summer, but did you know it will serve the community for many years to come? Keep an eye on our News and Insights page, as we’ll be revealing what went into the design and how it will adapt for future use.
Last week, Carnival Hub in Wokingham opened its doors to the public. We are delighted to have supported the delivery of the hub which houses a state-of-the-art leisure centre and library, providing valuable facilities to the community.
When we took on the project, we redesigned it to enhance its accessibility and inclusivity, and incorporated sustainable features such as photovoltaic panels and air source heat pumps. This saw a huge 87% reduction in CO2/m2 in operation.
This week saw the opening of Melksham Community Campus for Wiltshire Council, a brand-new hub housing sports facilities, swimming pools, council offices, and a library. Surrounded by historic landscape and buildings, we designed the centre so users can enjoy views of its parkland setting.
The campus provides much needed community facilities, as well as creating 40 jobs and acting as a catalyst for regeneration in the area. We are now working on the transformation of the adjacent Grade II-listed Melksham House to provide further community facilities for Wiltshire Council.
Place Leisure Camberley celebrated its first anniversary in July. We designed the contemporary sports centre to replace the old Camberley Arena Leisure Centre and provide the community with modern, sustainable, and accessible facilities. The new centre has been extremely popular with the community and is just the start of wider plans to develop and reinvigorate the town centre.
We attended the event, hosted by Places Leisure, Pellikaan Construction, and Surrey Heath Borough Council. It was also attended by Michael Gove, MP for Surrey Heath, who unveiled a commemorative plaque. We were delighted to hear him comment that the centre is 'state-of-the-art and beautifully designed'.
