ProCook is the UK's largest and top specialised kitchenware brand, as well as a Which? recommended provider. ProCook is a BCorp and has been named by Great Place to Work® as one of the UK's Best Workplaces™ forWellbeing (2023). Due to these factors’ sustainability was a major focus within this project.
ProCook previously had units in the St Modwen industrial area, but they wanted to merge their stock and head office so that all personnel could be under one roof. The space had to have a flow between the warehouse, office space, and showroom.
ProCook contacted St Modwen during the design process, so we were able to combine the requirements from both St Modwen and ProCook at an early stage. We have a long history with St Modwen, and we have previously designed ProCook units, so we had a clear concept of how to combine the two projects.
Before beginning the construction process, we designed a unit that met both ProCook and St Modwen's specifications, making use of 3D CGI modelling.
The 167,000 square foot unit was designed specifically for ProCook, with 193 parking spaces, 26 electric car charging points, 19 lorry dock levellers, and 4 cycle storage units. As part of the building's sustainability efforts, there are several environmental initiatives including solar panels and rainwater collection tanks that supply the sanitary system. Employee benefits are also built into the ProCook unit, including a subsidised staff café and communal area, an employee gym, and a dedicated wellbeing room.
The highly sustainable building is certified BREEAM 'Excellent' due to its energy efficient design and EPC A rating, placing it inthe top 10% of the most sustainable buildings in the UK.
