We were appointed to redevelop an existing stadium to provide suitable facilities for Premiership Rugby team Saracens, whilst maintaining and enhancing the existing community athletics facilities within a sensitive greenbelt setting.
The challenge
The new pitch is the first 4G (fourth generation) pitch in the UK to be used for Premiership Rugby and allows for all weather use for both matches and rugby training. The building design uses a combination of timber cladding and a blend of natural colour selected to blend the building within the sensitive green belt setting. The stadium incorporates a series of sustainable features, including a ground source heat pump. The stadium is the first sports stadium to achieve BREEAM ‘Excellent’ status in design performance.
